5 Reasons Why the World Needs Dreamers
Not every one is a dreamer — and that’s OK. Dreamers need people to help them implement their dream. But this post is for those of you with a dream left inside of you.
I’m in that category and need to remind myself that I have a dream that needs to be realized in spite of the distractions, doubt, and discouragement that tries to keep it from coming true.
The bigger question is, why bother with your dream?
Aren’t there enough ideas and initiatives out there already? Why encourage more dreaming? Below are five reasons why dreaming is essential and why you need to hold on to your dream until it takes flight.
5 Reasons Why the World Needs Dreamers
1.Without dreamers, we’d have no electric light.
Thomas Edison dreamed of a lamp that could be powered by electricity. He proceeded to put his dream into action and despite more than 10,000 failures, eventually made light in a completely new way.
2. Without dreamers, we’d be stuck traveling by rail, road, and sea.
The Wright brothers dreamed of a machine that would fly through the air. They experienced incredible opposition to their crazy idea but because of their stubborn resolve to get off the ground, did in fact do so.
3. Without dreamers, we be stuck using wires to communicate with each other.
Marconi dreamed of a system where we could harness the intangible force of ether to transmit sound through the air instead of wires. Some reports suggest he might have been labeled insane by his friends, but he pressed on and proved them all wrong.
4. Without dreamers, there’d be a void of innovation and significant change in the world.
Here’s to the crazy ones, the misfits, the rebels, the troublemakers, the round pegs in the square holes…the ones who see things differently — they’re not fond of rules…You can quote them, disagree with them, glorify or vilify them, but the only thing you can’t do is ignore them because they change things…they push the human race forward, and while some may see them as the crazy ones, we see genius, because the ones who are crazy enough to think that they can change the world, are the ones who do. — Steve Jobs
5. Without dreamers, we’d have less unity and even more brokenness in our world.
I have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin, but by the content of their character. — Martin Luther King Jr.
One more tip for dreamers that matters
Every day, life is so much better because someone had a dream they acted on. I look back with satisfaction on the dreams I didn’t just “dream” but acted on. It’s not good enough to simply dream, you must act. All dreamers are not created equal.
All men dream: but not equally. Those who dream by night in the dusty recesses of their minds wake up in the day to find it was vanity; but the dreamers of the day are dangerous men, for they may act on their dreams with open eyes, to make them possible. ― T.E. Lawrence
What is the dream you need to believe in and act upon?
I’ve got one, do you?
