Seven Ideas to Merge Dreams and Deeds into One

Too often, my dreams and my deeds are two,
That create a disconnect and an inner feud.
I go looking for relief from the weight of things undone,
And find a pathway where dreams and deeds are one.*

After I wrote my last post, “Hold Fast to Your Dreams,” I realized there’s more that needs to be said and done. We run into a wall when unfinished deeds become a companion of our dreams. [read this online here]

What about you? Are your dreams and your deeds two? Do you dream yet fail to deliver the right deeds so your dream is achieved?

You need more than inspiration to see your dream (goal, hope, aspiration) realized. You need a plan that matches the necessary deeds with the dream. When that partnership happens, it’s truly a beautiful thing.

Without determined action, a chasm forms between what we hope for and what we realize. Here are a few ideas I’ve found helpful when working to align my dreams and deeds as one.

Seven ideas for merging dreams and deeds into one

Idea #1: Review your dream to make sure it still resonates and is relevant.

If it isn’t, give yourself permission to make the necessary adjustments so you can move forward with dream achievement.

Idea #2: Describe in writing what your dream will look like once completed and why it’s important to you.

Being clear and purposeful in your dreaming is key. Plus, writing clarifies your thinking and sharpens your dream.

Idea #3: Equip yourself with the know-how and skills required to achieve it.

If you lack the skills, knowledge, know-how, or expertise to accomplish your dream, google the answer, read a book, take a course, find a model.

Idea #4: Get someone to help you and hold you accountable for what you intend to do.

This is the human element. We need people who know more than us or at the least can challenge us to finish what we’ve started.

Idea #5: Set aside time in your schedule to do the deeds required to achieve your dream.

Sounds pretty basic but I can’t tell you how many distractions and squirrels I’ve chased instead of doing the deeds that will get me to where I want to go.

Idea #6: Celebrate small wins on your way to your dream.

You need to keep yourself going by rewarding yourself for the progress you’re making.

Idea #7: Instead of listening to yourself, talk to yourself.

We all listen to the voice inside our head that is filled with self-doubt and and limiting beliefs. Instead, talk to yourself and say, “I will achieve my dream because I’m a hard working, focused, resilient person whose dreams and deeds are one.”

Final thought

Don’t settle for the chasm that might exist between your dreams and your deeds. Setbacks, distractions, and storms will happen but when they do, review, regroup, renew, and reengage so your dream and your deeds become one.
