How to See Adversity in a Whole New Light
Perhaps if we see adversity as natural, consistent and useful we’re less burdened by the presence of it. — Paralympian Aimee Mullins
The truth is, we often perceive adversity as unnatural, unreasonable, and useless. What if we turned that perspective around and said something like this:
- Adversity is natural and part of the human experience.
- Adversity is consistent and reasonable given the complexity and broken condition of our world.
- Adversity is useful to deepen empathy, strengthen character, and nurture humility.
It’s not easy to see adversity this way but when you do, you change for the better from the inside out.
Final thought from Aimee Mullins
There’s a partnership between perceived deficiencies and our creative ability so it’s not about sweeping under the rug the challenges but finding the opportunity wrapped in the adversity.
