The Shocking Truth about the Chicken

There is a legend among prairie farmers about a farmer who found an abandoned eagle’s egg and placed it in the nest of a mother hen. As the story goes, the eaglet hatched with the brood of chicks and grew up with them in the chicken coop.

All his life the eagle thought he was an ordinary chicken. He did what chickens did. He scratched in the dirt for seeds. He ate insects and the bit of grain the farmer would throw his way. He clucked and cackled just like the others. When he flew, he did so with a brief thrashing of his wings and flurry of feathers no more than a few feet off the ground. He flew just like the other chickens.

After all, that’s how chickens were supposed to fly.

One day he saw an incredible bird flying above him in the cloudless blue sky. Hanging with effortless form in the air and catching powerful updrafts, it soared with barely a flap of its strong wings.

“What a beautiful bird!” the eagle exclaimed to a fellow chicken who scratched and clawed his way through life just like him. “What kind of bird is that?” he asked his more senior chicken coop mate.

“Oh, that’s an eagle — the chief of all birds,” the chicken clucked. “But don’t worry, you’ll never be able to soar like him.”

So the eagle never gave it second thought. He lived and died thinking he was a chicken.

Now what about you. What were you born for? What have you settled for? How close are those two realities?

I’m not talking about fame or riches or power. I’m talking about having a purpose to your life, finding your place in the world and making a difference in the lives of others.

Too many people settle for a chicken style existence when they have eagle blood and eagle wings. It’s not wrong for the chicken if that’s what you are to settle but we’re not chickens! We are made to a higher purpose. We’re made to soar. We’re made to dream and love and live and laugh and learn.

Just in case your dreams are too small – I challenge you to look up and believe you can fly. Raise your head, spread your wings and tell yourself “I’ve been made to soar above my circumstances not be swallowed up by them.”

You were made to catch the updraft of strong winds and be made stronger, not kept on the ground picking and clawing your way through life.

You were after all, born to fly!

What are your dreams for making a difference?
What’s next to make that dream a reality?

To make a dream a reality…those who hope in the Lord, will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like “Eagles”; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint. Is 40:31. I found out a long time ago that I’m not a chicken. Praise God for Hope and Strength. Exchanging some words, i.e. I hope in the Lord. He will renew My strength, I will soar….etc. Your blogs are great. Keeps me going. Thank you Cam.
